Environmental Scholarships
One scholarship is for an Inuvialuit
student and one is for a Gwich'in student. The two (2) scholarships
will be awarded to suitable candidates each year.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, individuals must be beneficiaries
of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement and the Gwich'in Settlement
Agreement, and must be attending a recognized university, college, or
technical institute in pursuit of a post-secondary degree in environmental
sciences. Candidates must have completed or be completing their Grade
12 diploma.
Environmental studies include:
- Ecological sciences (air, biology, botany, climatology,
geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, oceanography, soil sciences, zoology)
- Heritage resources (archeology, paleontology)
- Environmental chemistry
and toxicology
- Land use and resource planning
- Geographic information systems and
computer modeling
Applications
Applications must include:
- A statement of the career goals of the applicant
- A personal resume
of the applicant
- Two letters reference, one of which must be from
a secondary school teacher who is familiar with the student
- Documentation
of acceptance in a post-secondary program for environmental studies
